India's energy supply is still largely based on fossil fuels. In order to decrease dependence on imported fossil fuels, to reduce CO2 emissions and to improve energy supply, the government aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the energy mix. Solar energy plays a major role in this strategy. As a result, an increasing demand for solar glass is expected.

Solar glass is a special type of structural glass used in solar modules. TRPL's planned manufacturing facility will allow the production of solar glass with different thicknesses and dimensions to meet the requirements of individual solar module producers.

The funds provided by OeEB enable the construction of a "greenfield" solar glass factory with a capacity of 240 tons per day in the city of Rajahmundry in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The new factory will help promote the development of local solar module production in India and decrease dependency on imports.
