An independent evaluation of OeEB was commissioned by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) in 2022. It is part of a regular external evaluation cycle and assesses the relevance, additionality, effectiveness, efficiency and developmental impact and sustainability of OeEB's activities.

Based on the Austrian Export Credit Guarantees Act, the Federal Ministry of Finance is obliged to commission an independent evaluation of the OeEB every 3-5 years. Steward Redqueen was hired to conduct the evaluation in 2022. The evaluation was carried according to the OECD-DAC criteria of relevance, additionality, effectiveness, efficiency, developmental impact, and sustainability.

The independent evaluation comes at a very timely moment as OeEB celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. It offers the possibility to reflect on the past, on what lies ahead and how to grow and improve.

The evaluation concluded, inter alia, that OeEB has grown to become the 7th largest European Development Finance Institution (EDFI) in just 14 years. Delivering on its mandate, the OeEB has achieved significant development impact with an investment portfolio of approximately EUR 1.47 billion. Moreover, OeEB is currently the largest private contributor to international climate finance in Austria.
